Albert L. Metayer

Albert L. Metayer 1929-2008   Albert L. Metayer, 79, of Chicopee passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 in Mercy Medical Center.  Born in Springfield and a Springfield resident for most of his life, he was the son of the late Adelard and Mildred (Decorie) Metayer.  Albert was a retired welder for the Titeflex Corp of Springfield and was a communicant of St. Jude Church of Indian Orchard.  He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict attaining the rate of Sergeant. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation with 1 Star; the Korean Service Medal with 3 Stars; the United Nations Service Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.  He was an avid horse racing fan and loved to travel.  Albert leaves two nieces; Cynthia Ellsworth and her husband Wesley of Monson; Linda Glisky and her husband Paul of Cypress, TX; grand nephews, Christopher Ellsworth, Nicholas Ellsworth and Ian Travis; a grand niece Misha Burgett; a cousin, Pearl Chency of Chicopee; a dear friend John Kmiec of Chicopee and a dear friend whom he looked after as his own son, Jason Magee of Pennsylvania.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 17, 2008 from the Ratell Funeral Home 200 Main St., Indian Orchard at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Jude Church, at 11 a.m.  Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Indian Orchard.  Calling hours will be held on Friday morning from 9 to 10:30 a.m. For Guest Book www.ratellfuneralhome.com .
