Arthur A. Twombly died peacefully on Sept. 8, with his children by his side, just five days shy of his 90th birthday. He was born in Laconia, New Hampshire, on Sept. 13, 1926, the youngest of six children. When he signed up for the Army in WWII he was chosen as a member of the Signal Corp, specializing in communication. It was an honor and a perfect fit. Arthur was awarded the Luzon Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Army of Occupation Medal, World War Two Victory Medal and, for anyone who knew him, not unsurprisingly, the Good Conduct Medal. He proudly served in the South Pacific campaign as a Staff Sergeant and after the liberation of the Philippines served in the Army's Japan Occupation Forces. Upon his discharge, he relocated to Indian Orchard, where he met the love of his life, Marguerite Jodoin, They were married on June 18, 1949 and soon after moved to their home on Sabin Street, which was custom-built for them by Arthur's brother-in-law. It's where they made a home, lovingly raised their family and, until two days before his death, was where Arthur still lived. Arthur was an avid gardener and meticulous about the home projects he undertook and loved. His grass was manicured, his tomatoes were legendary and his home repairs were always better than original. He was a strategic thinker and tinkerer, developing solutions for everything from complex company production issues to hanging the birdfeeder so Marguerite could see it from the kitchen window but the squirrels couldn't get to it. Arthur worked for Associated Engineers of Agawam, Bostitch and Revco (later acquired by Simon Container Machinery.) He was a communicant and very involved at St. Jude church (formerly St. Aloysius) in Indian Orchard. Arthur's greatest happiness came from his children. who both survive him: son Kevin (Theresa) of Sacramento, Ca. and Lisa (Russ) of Indian Orchard. His wife, Marguerite, predeceased him in death, as did his siblings: sisters Parmalie Reeves, Priscilla Nadon and brothers Robert, Arnold and Albert Twombly. He is survived by his grandchildren: Allan (Kate) Ruell of Belchertown; Katherine and Colleen Keegan-Twombly and Sean Ruell. Numerous nieces and nephews.
