Bernard "Bernie" Norman Veroneau, 77, passed away on Saturday, March 4, at Chesapeake Health Care and Rehabilitation in Chesapeake, VA. He was born on July 1, 1939 in Boscawen, NH, a son of Telesphore and Eleanor (Clement) Veroneau. Bernard attended Springfield Trade School and served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy. Bernard was a machinist for 20 years at the former Package Machinery in East Longmeadow and Chapman Valve formerly in Indian Orchard. He was also self-employed and ran Tom's Machine Shop in Springfield for more than 10 years. He relocated south and was a civilian machinist for naval shipyards in both Virginia Beach, VA and Jacksonville, FL. He enjoyed cooking, shrimping, gardening and of course tag sales. Bernie leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Doris (Duclos) Veroneau of Chesapeake, VA; his children, Donna Ouimet and her husband, Kurt of Springfield, Tammy Colby and her husband, Raymond of Monson, and Norman Veroneau and his wife, Denise of Belchertown; siblings, Jacqueline Minkle and her husband, Fred of Florida, Roger Veroneau and his wife M?n of California, and Janet McDevitt and her husband William of Indiana; 14 cherished grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; step daughters, Darlene Robert and Diane Riberdy and her husband, William all of Chesapeake, VA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Paul Veroneau. Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, March 12 for a period of visitation for Bernie from 9-11:30 a.m. at Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard, followed by a service at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be private and at a later date.
