Dagmar E. O'Connell

Dagmar E. O'Connell 1918-2008   Dagmar Elizabeth (Bopp) O'Connell, 90, of Ludlow, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2008.  Born in Ludlow and a Ludlow resident for most of her life, she was the daughter of the late Dietrich and Gina (Dignas) Bopp. Dagmar graduated in 1936 from Springfield Technical High School and served on their reunion committees until their final 65th reunion. She was a retired secretary for the former Indian Orchard Fuel Co. and was a communicant of the former St. Matthew's Church, now St. Jude Church of Indian Orchard. She was a life time active member of the Daughters of Isabella, Magna Circle since 1952 and was an avid candlepin bowler for many years well into her 80's. She enjoyed playing cards with her niece Joanie and other family and friends. There was a special place in her heart for her kitty, Siamese Sam.  Dagmar was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to those who were blessed with knowing her. She always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye and took life in stride.  She enjoyed traveling with her friends, dining out and visiting the ocean. Dagmar was predeceased by her husband, Edward D. O'Connell and by her siblings, Robert, Karl and William Bopp, Anna O'Connell and Yardis Beaudry-Scott.  She leaves her son, Michael O'Connell and his wife, Diane of Conway; three grandchildren, Shawn O'Connell of Conway, Kelley Dubrule and her husband, Bruce of Shelburne Falls; Sherri DuBois and her husband, Darin of Belchertown; and three great grandchildren, Cameron Dubrule, Olivia Dubrule and Michael O'Connell and many nieces and nephews.  Funeral services for Dagmar will be on Monday, September 15, 2008 from the Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Jude Church, 221 Main St., Indian Orchard at 10 a.m.  Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery.  A calling hour will be held on Monday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Daughters of Isabella Magna/Palmer Circle, 364 Ware Road, Palmer, MA  01069.
