Donald A. Whittier 1935-2012 SPRINGFIELD - Donald A. Whittier, 77, formerly of 78 Pelham Street died Saturday, February 4 at Wingate of Springfield. Born in Springfield on January 22, 1935, he was the son of the late Wallace A. and May J. (Smitherman) Whittier. Don served in the military armed forces for 20 years retiring as a tech sergeant from the air force in 1978. He was employed as a mini bus driver in Chicopee for several years. He was a member of the American Legion in Springfield. His wife, the former Ellen M. (Bunnell) Whittier, died in 1989 and he was also predeceased by his brother Wallace E. Whittier. Don leaves his niece Patricia M. Boudreau of Springfield, two grandnieces Laurie Lebano and Kelly Varnet, one grandnephew Timothy Boudreau, and several great grandnieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Thursday, February 9, at Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard at 9am with a service in the parlor at 10am. Burial in Green Lawn Cemetery, East Longmeadow.
