Doris Rita Leiper

Doris R. Leiper 1929-2010 INDIAN ORCHARD - Doris Rita (Stearns) Leiper, 80, of Indian Orchard passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 in the loving presence of her family. Born in Worcester and a long time Indian Orchard resident, she was the daughter of the late William and Ella (Laprade) Stearns. Doris was a loving wife, mother and home maker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved a big party or a good parade, especially if the Shriners were in it.  Doris was an avid and accomplished bowler.  She enjoyed playing cards and board games. Doris was predeceased by her husband, Walter B. Leiper in 1992 and by her brother, Norman Stearns and sister, Dorothy Gagne.  She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Walter B. Leiper, Jr., and his wife Anna of Chicopee; her daughters, Cecelia A. King and her companion Terrence of Ludlow; Joan M. Zuzgo and her husband, Tom of Hadley; her granddaughter, Lauren M. King of New Orleans, LA; sisters, Shirley Houghton of Templeton, MA and Judith Gagne and her husband Arthur of Lisbon, CT. Calling hours will be held on Friday April 16, 2010 at the Ratell Funeral Home 200 Main St., Indian Orchard from 4 - 7 p.m. Committal services and burial for Doris will be with her husband in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam on Wednesday April 21, 2010 at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Baystate VNA & Hospice, c/o Baystate Health Foundation, 280 Chestnut St., Springfield 01199 or to the Shriners Hospital for Children 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA  01104.
