Janes 1925-2008 Edna (Couture) Janes of Springfield, MA died Friday July 18, 2008 at Baystate Medical Center at the age of 83 with her daughters by her side. Born in Ludlow MA on January 18, 1925, she grew up in Indian Orchard, graduating from Technical High School in 1941. Married in 1944 to John Janes, the love of her life and "a prince", they moved with their 3 children to Ludlow in 1953 to a home they built themselves. Edna worked for a number of years as a Nurses Aide at the former Ludlow Hospital. After raising a family, she went to Springfield Technical Community College and graduated from the two -year Medical Assisting Program. She worked for 15 years at the Wing Memorial Hospital Health Center until her retirement in 1980 to relocate to Ocala, Florida upon her husband's retirement. While in Florida, she volunteered at Monroe Regional Medical Center and read to elementary school students as part of the 100 Grandparents Program. Edna was also an active member of the Marion Oaks Women's Club and the VFW Post 10091 Auxiliary. In 2006, Edna moved to the Gardens at Keystone Woods in Springfield where she loved living and made many new friends. She was predeceased by her husband John Janes, her son David F. Janes, and her grandson Christopher J. Burrage. Her brother Lawrence "Pete" Couture and sister Jean Connors also predeceased her. Edna is survived by her daughters Bonnie (Burrage) Krotkov and son-in-law Robert Krotkov of Hadley, MA and Renee Janes of Wallingford, CT. Also surviving her are her sister Yvette and brother-in-law Raymond Morrissette of Gainesville, FL, grandson John Janes of Salem, NH, granddaughter Beth Burrage and Beth's partner Bryan Cohen of Ludlow, granddaughter Melissa (Janes) and her husband Jacob Besong of Merrimack, NH, daughter-in-law Judy Janes of Atkinson, NH, granddaughter-in-law Robin Burrage of Cambridge, MA and great-granddaughters Hannah and Emily Worpek of Ludlow. Edna is also survived by her sister-in-law Catherine Tenerowicz and many nieces, nephews and friends. Edna loved her family, playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles, Glenn Miller's music, and coffee ice cream with butterscotch sauce. We will miss her. Services will be held in the October at a date to be announced. Edna always said if she won the lottery she would send money to St Jude Children's Hospital.
