Edward Patenaude of Indian Orchard, age 88, passed away April 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Edward was the son of the late Cyrille and Bertha (Grondalski) Patenaude, born in Ludlow on July 11, 1935. After high school, at age 18 Edward joined the United States Navy during the Korean War where he achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer before going on to retire from the Air Force. In total he served his country for 41 years. He met the love of his life, Mary Ann (Beile) and they married in 1958. Edward worked as a carpenter and barber. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his leisure. He was a man of family and faith, belonging to Immaculate Conception Church. Edward is predeceased by his parents, as well as his two daughters, Jane Boyce and Debra Carpanelli, and his sister Frances Freeland. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Mary Ann Patenaude, his sons and their wives Walter and Mary Ann Patenaude of Russell, and James and Karen Patenaude of Monson, his grandchildren Adam Patenaude, Timothy Patenaude, Christopher Patenaude, and Jenna Shumate, and his great-granddaughter Alexandria Patenaude. Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 30, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM with a service beginning at 10:00AM at the Ratell Funeral Home at 200 Main Street in Indian Orchard, MA. A Committal Service will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery at 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA beginning at 11:00 AM.
