Ethel M. Lawson1916-2014HAMPDEN- Ethel M. (Kessler) Lawson, 97, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in Wingate at Hampden. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, on July 30, 1916 the daughter of the late John and Ethel (May) Kessler. Ethel graduated from Palmer Business College, and was a secretary at the Philadelphia Division of Yale & Towne Mfg. Co. She married Earl C. Lawson in 1946, and shared 49 years together until his passing on April 18, 1995. They lived in the Indian Orchard Section of Springfield prior to moving to Wilbraham in 1971. Ethel was a secretary for the New England Home Stead publication and for 15 years was a secretary in the Springfield district office of Hormel Foods Inc. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Indian Orchard serving as a deaconess for many years, a founder of the Booster Club and a member of the Social Club. Since 1970 she and her husband were co-editors of the Church Organ, a monthly newsletter of the church. Ethel is survived by a son, David J. Lawson and his wife Mary Beth; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Valerie Lawson, all of Wilbraham. A funeral home service will be held on Monday, April 21st at 10.30 a.m. at the Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St. Indian Orchard, with burial to follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 985 Parker St., Springfield. Visitation will precede the services from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
