Eugene A. Lavoie1925-2014Ludlow- Eugene A. Lavoie, 89, a lifelong resident of Ludlow, died on Sunday, October 12, 2014 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Charles and Emma (Cormier) Lavoie and was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Class of 1942. In March of 1943, he joined the United States Navy and served as submariner aboard the USS Segundo until 1946. He worked for Alamac Knitting Mills, Westover Knitting Mills and Hoskin Rug, Co. at the Indian Orchard Mills from 1948 to 2003. He was 78 years old when he retired. Eugene is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Eleanore (Gauthier) Lavoie, four loving children, Sr. Christine Lavoie, s.s.j. of Westfield, Eugene Lavoie, Jr. of Belchertown, Robert Lavoie, also of Belchertown, Charlene (Lavoie) Potter of E. Middlebury, VT. and one sister, Yvonne (Lavoie) Sheppard of Ludlow. He leaves behind two cherished grandchildren; Joshua Potter and his wife Melissa Disorda of Pittsford, VT; and Alyssa Potter of Brandon, VT. , and three beautiful great-grandchildren, Logan, Ella and Max Potter. He will be also greatly missed by several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and friends. Relatives and friends are welcome to call on Wednesday, October 15th from 4-7 p.m. at Ratell Funeral Home 200 Main St. in Indian Orchard. Gene's funeral Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth's Church, 181 Hubbard Street, Ludlow, at 10 a.m., on Thursday, October 16th. Burial will follow at Island Pond Cemetery, Center Street, Ludlow.
