With heavy hearts we are sad to say our loved one, Gary N. Vickers, 69, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021. He was born in Ludlow on June 14, 1951, a son of the late David J. and Florence (DelPozzo) Vickers. He grew up in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, attending local schools and graduating from Springfield trade School in 1969. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as a Loadmaster for the C-123 and C-130's. He was in the USAF Reserves from 1976 till 1990, working at Westover Air Base. Gary was involved in aerial drops of cargo throughout his career and also supervised the Golden Knights and Navy Seal jumps from his planes as a Loadmaster. After retiring from the Reserves, Gary and his wife were the co-owners of Vickers Liquors (Dobecks) in Granby for many years. Gary was an awesome guitar player and loved playing one of his many guitars for family and friends, he wrote much of his own music. Gary leaves his best friend, soul mate and love of his life; his wife of 36 years, Susan (Pollack) Boyce-Vickers. He will be sadly missed by his beloved daughter; Catherine Vickers-Malo (David). His step-son, Richard Boyce Jr. (Jennifer). He will be missed by his precious Rugrat granddaughter, Miyah Boyce. He will be dearly missed by his grandson, Alexander Boyce. His dear brother, David Vickers Jr. (Kathy). He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts and the many dear friends who gave him laughs throughout the years. He also leaves his former wife, Susanne Hubbard.
The family invites you to gather and remember Gary on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Ratell Funeral Home at 11:30 a.m.
Interment of his cremains with military honors will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. directly at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St, Agawam, MA 01001. Donations in Gary's memory may be made to the Shriners Hospital, Spfld unit., 516 Carew St., Spfld, MA. 01104.
