Helen A. Schouler 1913-2013 Ludlow - Helen A. (Underwood) Schouler, 99, of Ludlow, passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center. Born in Greenfield on October 16, 1913, she was raised there by her parents, the late William and Eva (Brooks) Underwood. Helen was a 1932 graduate of Greenfield High School. During her high school years she was awarded the title "Miss Greenfield". She worked as a cook for the Springfield School Lunch Department for 17 years.  She was a member and past president of the Indian Orchard Women's Club and a member of the Ludlow Golden Agers. Helen was a member and deaconess of the First Congregational Church of Indian Orchard. She was predeceased by her loving husband Arthur H. Schouler in 1966, her daughter Judith Premo in 1980, her brother William D. Underwood in 1997, her brother Gordon Underwood in 2012, and her granddaughter Karen Knighton in 2005. She leaves one son Brian Schouler of Ludlow; two granddaughters, Sharon Stratton of Johnson City, TN and Kristin Miller and her husband Steve of Walpole, MA; a former son-in-law Paul Premo and his wife June of Johnson City, TN; a former daughter-in-law Lucy (Tarpinian) Schouler of Longmeadow; and four great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held at the Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard, Thursday from 9-11am followed by a service in the parlor at 11am. Burial will take place in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker St., Springfield. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Friends of the Ludlow Senior Center, 37 Chestnut St., Ludlow, MA 01056.
