Joan E. Atkins

Joan E. Atkins 1940-2014 SPRINGFIELD- Joan E. Atkins, 74, passed away at Wingate of Springfield on May 1, 2014.  Joan was born on September 11, 1940 to the late Ralph and Doris (Sarden) Atkins. She worked at New England School Specialties for 30 years before retiring in 1995.  Joan is predeceased by her long life companion Robert Herne; and two brothers, Henry and Donald Atkins.  She is survived by her brother Herbert Atkins and his wife Regina; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and her caregiver of six years, Luz Mojica.  Services for Joan will be Monday, May 5 at Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St, Indian Orchard, starting with calling hours at 9-10:30am, followed by a funeral home service at 10:30am.  Burial will be at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 985 Parker Street, Springfield, Oak Garden of Bronze Section.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association, P.O.
