John A. Nelson

February 3, 1919 — March 16, 2009

John A. Nelson 1919-2009   John A. Nelson, 90, of Ludlow passed away on Monday, March 16, 2009.  Born in Ludlow and a life long resident, he was the son of the late William and Jeannie (Allen) Nelson.  John was a retired (30) year plant manager for Hamilton-Standard of Windsor Locks, CT.  He was a member of the Union Church of Christ of Ludlow. John was also a member of the Brigham Masonic Lodge of Ludlow and the Melha Shriners Drum Corps.  John served his country with honor and distinction during World War II in the United State Navy. A Chief Machinist's Mate, he served aboard the USS Boise, the USS Sproston, the USS Valeria and the USS J. Douglas Blackwood.  He was predeceased by his wife of (47) years, Amelia (Duquette) Nelson in 2000 and by his siblings, Bella Gardner, Charles Nelson, William Nelson and James Nelson.  John leaves his son, John A. Nelson, Jr., of Ludlow and many nieces & nephews.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2009 at the Ratell Funeral Home 200 Main St., Indian Orchard with Rev. Tim Carlton officiating.  Burial will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Springfield.  Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2009 from 3 to 7 p.m.  Memorial contributions in John's memory may be made to the Union Church of Christ 51 Center St., P.
