Julius S. Michael 1917-2011 CAMBRIDGE- Julius S. "Mickey" Michael, formerly of 746 St. James Ave. and, previously, 44 Seymour Ave. Springfield, died Saturday in Cambridge, MA, from congestive heart failure at age 94. He had lived the last 3 years of his life happily at the Brigham House in Watertown, MA. Retired from the H. P. Hood Company, he was a WWII veteran and a lifelong sports enthusiast, especially hockey. He was an avid supporter of the Springfield Boys & Girls Club where he volunteered for decades and had many friends. Born in Springfield from immigrant parents, Samuel Michael from Russia and Anna Shagman from Poland, he was predeceased by his wife, Doris, and is survived by his son, Barry Michael, of Westfield, MA, grandchildren Barry Michael, Jr., Jason Michael, and Stacy, all in FL, his nephew, Don Michael of Wellesley, MA, and niece, Patricia Benda of Oakdale, CT, and their families. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Sept. 29, at Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard, MA from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a funeral service. Committal service immediately following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield. Donations to the Shriner's Hospital for Children or the Springfield Boys & Girls Club in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
