Larry F. Mathisen, 83, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026. He was born in Indian Orchard on December 29, 1942, to the late Fredrik and Beatrice (Brouillette) Mathisen. He attended Putnam Vocational High School and worked for 38 years at Springfield Wire. Larry most enjoyed dining out with his wife and Saturday morning breakfasts with family. His booming voice, sarcastic wit, and undeniably soft heart will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 32 years, Claudette Mathisen (Adams), brother John and sister Jean Ann Mathisen. He leaves behind his children Peter Mathisen and wife Kim of Wilbraham, James Mathisen and his wife Rebecca of Ludlow, daughter Kerri Niemiec and husband Tom of Chicopee as well as his beloved grandchildren Julia and Daniella Niemiec and Christopher James Mathisen. He also leaves behind stepchildren Diane and John Goodrich, Debbie Plourde, Leo and Tricia Plourde, Donna and Wayne LaPierre, Larry and Annette Plourde, Scott Plourde, and many cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of The Wellington in Springfield and Summit Eldercare in Springfield for their many years of compassionate care.
Visitation for Larry will be held Thursday, May 14th from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Family and friends are invited to meet directly at St. Elizabeth’s Church at 191 Hubbard Street, Ludlow, MA 01056 for Mass beginning at 10:00 A.M. on Friday. Mass will be followed by a graveside committal at St. Aloysius Cemetery. (In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to Shriners Children’s Hospital, or Dakin Humane Society, PO Box 6307, Springfield, MA 01101, as these organizations were close to his heart.
