Louis P. "Louie" Jerome Sr., "Pepere" 89, of Michael St. in Ludlow passed away peacefully on Thursday July 27, 2017 at Wingate of Hampden. Louis was born in Indian Orchard on July 21, 1928 the son of the late Louis and Myrtle (Denault) Jerome. He was educated in Springfield and attended local schools. He worked briefly for the former Alamac Knitting Mills in Indian Orchard before enlisting in the US Navy. He served as a Seaman Second Class during World War II before re-enlisting with the US Army and serving with the 278th Regimental Combat Team. He was honorably discharged in 1957 and returned home. He worked at Alamac in Indian Orchard for 23 years then later Mobil Chemical in Holyoke for 20 years before retiring. Louie lived in Springfield in his younger years before moving to Ludlow where he and his wife had lived the past 48 years. Louis enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a man of deep faith and was a devoted communicant of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Ludlow. He leaves his beloved wife of 50 years; Lillian (Gagnon) Jerome. His children; Nicole M. Jerome of Enfield, CT., Louis P. Jerome Jr. of Chicopee, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was sadly predeceased by a son, Alan Jerome and his siblings; Emmet, Clifford, Viola and Scarlett Jerome and Margaret Lowe. A Service will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard with Monsignor Homer Gosselin, officiant. Calling hours will precede the service from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. Interment of Louis' ashes with full military honors will immediately follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Berkshire Ave., Indian Orchard.
