SPRINGFIELD- Mary L. Payne, 71, of Indian Orchard passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon at her home surrounded by family. Mary Lou, as family and friends called her, was born in Springfield on September 22, 1949. She was raised and educated in West Springfield, attending local schools and graduated from West Springfield High School in 1967. Mary Lou worked for many years at Graham's Check Cashing in Springfield and AAA Auto Club in West Springfield. Mary Lou loved spending time with family, especially her children and dear sister, Margaret "Susie" Slattery. She loved shopping with her "Sis", trips to the Casino and simply taking a car ride exploring New England. She loved doing the daily word jumble in the newspaper. In addition to her beloved parents; Ralph and Mary (Douglas) Sussman, Mary Lou was predeceased by siblings; Robert and Richard Sussman and Ann Gentry. She leaves her beloved children; Amanda Stevens and her husband George of Springfield and Kevan Payne of Indian Orchard. Her devoted sister; Margaret "Susie" Slattery of Springfield and brother, Douglas Sussman of West Springfield. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
The family invites you to join them for calling hours on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard from 10:00 to 12:00 Noon with a religious Service for Mary Lou at the Funeral Home at 12 Noon. Interment of her ashes will be held privately at a later date.
