Chicopee - Robert Thomas Dion, Sr., 63, of Chicopee, Massachusetts was called home to the kingdom of heaven on March 8th 2016. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and four children. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Laura E (Suzor) Dion, Robert leaves behind his sons Robert T. Dion, Jr. and daughter-in-law Renee Dion., Michael A. Dion, John H. Dion and daughter-in-law Shauna Dion, and daughter Laura J. Dion-Green and daughter-in-law Krystal Dion-Green. Robert also leaves behind sisters, Donna Gamble and her husband, Jack, Marion Corkins, and her husband, John, and a brother, Anthony Dion. Robert will also be missed by his four beloved grand-children, Aidan, Avah, Ashton, and John Dion, Jr. Robert was the son of the late Leo and Pearl Dion of Ludlow, Massachusetts. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on June 6th 1952 and lived in western Massachusetts his entire life. After graduation from Ludlow High School in 1972, Robert joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Kiska during the Vietnam War. After serving our country proudly, Robert continued his career as a salesman for ALA auto club for over 20 years. Robert Dion Sr. had a zest for life and brought smiles and laughter into the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. An avid outdoorsman and adventurer, Robert enjoyed the simple things nature offered like fishing, hunting, and camping. Robert also enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends especially during the summers spent at Lakeside Family campground located in Brookfield, Massachusetts. Robert was a free spirit who loved and provided for his family. He will be dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews, family, and friends. Calling hours will be held at Retell Funeral Home located ,200 Main St. Indian Orchard, on Sunday, March 13th, from 6-9 pm and burial will be at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at 10:00 am on Monday, March 14th with Military Honors .
