Roland J. Blais 1927-2009 LUDLOW- Roland J. Blais, 81, of Ludlow, and formerly of Indian Orchard, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 5, 2009 in Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Ste. Anastasie, Canada, on May 18, 1927, a son of the late Cleophas and Yvonne (LeBlond) Blais. Roland attended Springfield schools, and attended seminary in Maine. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in Austria and Germany, and received the Army of Occupation Medal and WWII Victory Medal. Roland was a Stationary Fireman and retired from Spalding, Inc., in Chicopee. He was a member of St. Jude's Church (formerly St. Aloysius Church). Roland was a member of the Holy Name Society, bingo committee, Knights of Columbus Council 160 in Indian Orchard, and the Pine Point Senior Center. He is survived by his brother, Robert A. Blais and his wife Carol; a sister, Florence M. Blais, all of Ludlow; and many nieces and nephews. Roland was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest, Joseph and Romeo Blais; and a sister, Claire Blais. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 14th beginning at 9 a.m. from the Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Jude's Church, Main St., with Rites of Committal and burial to follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery, 1273 Berkshire Ave., all in Indian Orchard. Roland's family will receive relatives and friends at the visiting hours on Monday April 13th from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
