Shirley Anne Rohan

Shirley A. (LaPine) Rohan 1942 - 2011 Shirley A. (LaPine) Rohan of Ludlow died surrounded by family on October 14, 2011.  Born in Springfield, daughter of Marion (Swenor) LaPine of Springfield and the late Leo LaPine, she graduated from Commerce High School in 1960. Shirley was a lifelong supporter of labor unions working for several throughout her career.  She retired from the Bricklayers Union, Local 1 as the Funds Administrator in 2003. In her retirement she spent her time on her computer and attending anything involving her grandchildren.  She loved music, movies, reading and crossword puzzles.  Shirley's greatest joy was her family, especially her five grandchildren.  She was never too busy to listen to their stories, attend any of their activities and make sure she had their favorite snacks in the house. Known as Honey or Grammy Shirl, she was always interested in what the kids were doing.  She made every birthday special for all of her family, offering their favorite birthday dinner.  She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Edward D. of Ludlow, her daughter Kelli Barrieau and her husband Dan of Ludlow, her son Steven Rohan and his wife Shelley of Glastonbury, CT. and her grandchildren Zachary and Ethan Barrieau of Ludlow, and Cameron, Connor and Dylan Rohan of Glastonbury, CT.  She also leaves her sister Linda LaPine and brother Ken LaPine and his wife Cathie, all of Springfield, several nieces and nephews and an extended family. The funeral will be held from the Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main Street, Indian Orchard, Thursday, October 20th at 9am with a Liturgy of Christian Burial in the Community of St. Elizabeth in St. John the Baptist Church, Hubbard St., Ludlow at 10am.  Burial in Island Pond Cemetery, Ludlow.  Calling hours Wednesday, October 19th from 4-8pm.  In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in her memory to the Local 104 Scholarship Fund, 168 Chicopee St., Chicopee, MA  01013.
