On Friday, September 30th, God called Susan E. (Gormalley) Manning of Springfield, MA home to Heaven. The daughter of Joseph & Winifred Gormalley, Susan was born on March 8th, 1947 in Salem, MA. As a young girl, her family traveled around the country due to her father's employment. After moving back to Massachusetts, Susan graduated in 1965 from St. Joseph's High School in Pittsfield. She was an incredibly dedicated and hard working woman. Working in many different roles over her career, most notably her early years as a banker at Shawmut Bank and eventually retiring from The United States Postal Service in 2009. Susan leaves behind her only son, Joseph Manning (Joey as she affectionately referred to him) of Hatfield, MA, whom she lived for. Her twin brother Patrick (Marie) Gormalley of Pittsfield, MA, her younger brother Michael Gormalley of Orlando, FL, her loving fiancé of 20 years James Orlowski of South Hadley, her former spouse Edward Manning of Hadley, MA, her precious cat Maxi, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Anyone who knew Susan was well aware of what a resilient and courageous woman she was. She overcame a lot of adversity, including beating both leukemia and breast cancer. Additionally, she was a very giving woman who enjoyed helping others. With this in mind, there will be a private mass for the family at a later date, but in lieu of flowers, please send donations to The American Cancer Society or your local hospice charity in her memory. Also, if you can please show an act of kindness to a stranger or someone less fortunate, Susan would love that!
