Truman A. Marlowe1916-2014Ludlow- Truman A. Marlowe, 97, passed away on July 5, 2014 at Wingate at West Springfield. Born in Indian Orchard on September 9, 1916 he was the son of the late Ulysses and Doris (Good) Marlowe. He lived most of his life in Ludlow and was a graduate of Ludlow High School. Truman was a member of the 87th Chemical Mortar Battalion and drove an ammunition truck during WWII in Europe. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 62 years, a past Grand Knight, past Financial Secretary, and past President of the Building Association for Indian Orchard Council 160. Truman was a current life member of St. Cecilia Council 10195, as well as a 4th Degree life member of Archbishop Williams Assembly 388. Additionally, he was a lifetime member of Ludlow Elks 2448 and a lifetime member of American Legion Post 0277 in Indian Orchard. Notably, Truman owned and operated Marlowe's Package Store in Ludlow, and served for many years as Financial Secretary for the Western MA Package Store Association. He was predeceased in 1996 by his wife, Elisabeth "Blossom" (Hamel) Marlowe and daughter, Verna Streeter. He is survived by his daughter Lynne Dobise and her husband Michael of Feeding Hills; son-in-law Alan Streeter of Hampden; six grandchildren, Barbara Wood and her husband David of West Brookfield, Michael Dobise Jr. of West Springfield, Christopher Streeter and his wife Margaret of East Longmeadow, Kerri Wheeler and her husband Jason of Westfield, Jennifer Willis and her husband Stephen of Agawam, and Bryan Streeter of Norwich, CT; and seven great-grandchildren, Antonio, Gabriella, Jacob, Evan, Trevor, Owen, and Nora. The family would like to thank the staff of Wingate of West Springfield for their care and compassion. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2014 starting at 9am at Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St, Indian Orchard followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Elizabeth's Church, 181 Hubbard St Ludlow. Rites of Committal will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery, 1273 Berkshire Ave, Indian Orchard. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 9th from 4-7pm.
