INDIAN ORCHARD- Carlos Julian Aponte or “Charlie” as his family and friends knew him by, passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 12, 2018 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by his family. Charlie was born in Arroyo, Puerto Rico on February 13, 1936 the son of Elena “Helen” (Lopez) Woodward. He was raised in Puerto Rico and educated in local schools there. He moved to the United States in his 1953 and had resided in Indian Orchard ever since. Charlie worked at Western Union for 26 years, as a Carpenter in New York City and finally at Heritage Hall Nursing Homes in the maintenance department before retiring in 2002. Charlie loved spending time with his adoring wife and loving family. He loved New England Sports, but the Red Sox were his world, riding the wave with them, winning or losing. He spent many hours and days coming to the aid of family and friends, always the first one often to lend a hand in a time of need. He loved animals, big or small, friendly or wild, and was always nursing a stray back to health, often paying the veterinarian bills himself. He leaves his beloved wife; Duane (Trombly) Aponte. His children; Charles Aponte and his wife Laurie of Palmer and Ron Aponte and his wife Christina of Belchertown. Seven grandchildren; Robert Brown, Danielle  Aponte-Nadim, Dr. Elizabeth Aponte and her husband Jean-Luc Bellefleur, Hannah Mae Aponte, Erika Taylor Aponte, Rebekah Noelle Aponte and Madison Rae Aponte. He also leaves his dear sister, Pat Laflamme and her husband Albert of Ludlow, many nieces, nephews and the extended members of the Aponte and Trombly families and countless loving friends and neighbors.
