LUDLOW-Eugene R. Robitaille, 88, of Laroche Street in Ludlow passed away peacefully on Monday at Orchard Valley Assisted living in Wilbraham after a brief illness. Gene was born in Ludlow on May 4, 1931, a son of the late Armand & Marguerite (Dupont) Robitaille. He was raised in Indian Orchard and attended local schools, graduating from Springfield Technical High School. He was drafted into the United States Marine Corps in May of 1952, graduating from Parris Island and was promoted to Corporal in 1953. He proudly served with United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps as a member of “The Commandants Own”. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and returned home to Springfield. He married Jeanette Gonyer and they settled in Ludlow to raise their family. Gene worked for many years as Store Manager at A & P Supermarkets then at First National Supermarkets (Finast) before retiring in 1995. Gene loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, especially at Quabbin Reservoir. He was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan. He was a devoted communicant of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Ludlow. His beloved wife, Jeanette (Gonyer) Robitaille sadly passed away on April 9, 2001. He leaves his children; Robert Robitaille and his wife, Margaret of Ludlow and Daniel Robitaille and his wife Laura of Westfield. His cherished grandchildren; Nichole Absous and her husband Justin of GA., Elizabeth Robitaille of Ludlow, Shannon Robitaille and her fiancé Tim Mannix of Bethel, ME. and Andrew, Madison and Alex Robitaille all of Westfield. He also leaves his siblings; George Robitaille of Ludlow and Beatrice Rush of West Palm, FL. along with many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two siblings; Roland Robitaille and Shirley Hebert. FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO CELEBRATE THE FUNERAL LITURGY FOR GENE ON MONDAY, JULY 13, 2020 AT 10:00 A.M.
