Garvin E. Thibodeau, 89, formerly of Shumway St. in Springfield passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Garvin was a son of the late Emile & Sarah (Jandreau) Thibodeau. He was born in St. Francis, raised there and attended local schools. Garvin was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. After returning home, he worked for a number of years as an equipment operator for several area contractors. He joined the USPS and retired in 1996 after 22 years of service. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 98, the American legion post 420 in Springfield, Eagles Club 148 in Springfield and the Belcher Lodge of Mason in Agawam. Garvin was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. He enjoyed his retirement years, especially watching the Red Sox games. His beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Lou (Pelletier) Thibodeau passed away in 2010. Garvin is survived by several siblings; Greta Michaud of Enfield, CT., Nona Michaud of Springfield, MA. Odette Jandreau and Grace George both of Maine, many nieces and nephews extended members of the Thibodeau family and dear friends. Garvin was predeceased by two siblings Steven and Letha; Doris Pelletier, Jackie Dionne, Mae Lausier and Fern Albert. At Garvin’s request he will be interred in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam alongside his wife at a private ceremony.
