SPRINGFIELD - Grosvenor D. “Tony” Knox, 83, of Oak Ridge Street in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield passed away on Friday afternoon at BSMC in Springfield after a brief illness. Tony, as his family and friends knew him, was born in Springfield on July 18, 1935 the son of the late Grosvenor D. Knox Sr. and Barbara E. (Burns) Knox-Gonzales.  He was also the stepson of the late Elley Gonzales, late husband of Barbara Knox-Gonzales He was raised and educated in Springfield, attending local schools.  Tony enlisted in the US Army, proudly serving in Korea with the 75TH Regimental Combat Team’s Special Forces, as a Medic and with the Military Police. He was honorably discharged and returned home in 1962. Tony was a retired Mail Handler for the USPS in Springfield for 22 years. He had previously worked for the Springfield Armory, City of Springfield in the Building Dept. and for the Phelon Co. in East Longmeadow. He was a proud Korean War veteran and a life member of the DAV. He leaves his beloved wife of 56 years whom he married on October 17, 1962, Dolores Plantier. Their entire married life was spent in the Orchard where they raised their family. He leaves his sons; Michael D. Knox and Patrick R. Knox Sr. both of Indian Orchard. Three cherished grandchildren; Patrick R. Knox Jr., Emma Rose “Miki” Coyle and Connor G. Wilson. He also leaves his dear siblings; Diane Baribeau Kathleen Kozakiewicz and her partner Joe Witkowski, Carmen Burroughs and her husband Raymond, Linda Silvas and her husband Ed, Sulema Andreoli and her husband Don, Marcia Bromley and her husband Dick and Maria Roncarati as well as many nieces and nephews. He was sadly predeceased by a son Shawn Grosvenor Knox in 1994, his sister Sandra Knox and her husband Israel, his brother Jesus “Chuey” Gonzales and brother in law Billy Baribeau. The family invites you to join them for Calling hours on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at the Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services for Tony will be Wednesday morning, November 14, 2018 from the Ratell Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.  followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church, 25 Parker St., Indian Orchard.  The Rites of Catholic Committal with Military Honors will immediately follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Rd., Springfield.
