Joanne "Jo" (Daigle) MacDonaldFebruary 14, 1941 ~ February 10, 2018 (age 76)
SPRINGFIELD- Joanne M. (Daigle) MacDonald, (“Jo”) as her family and friends liked to call her, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at her home. Joanne was born at the family home in Indian Orchard on February 14, 1941, the daughter of the late Lionel A. and Sarah V. (Cairns) Daigle. She was predeceased by her loving husband Paul C. MacDonald of 44 years, her cherished daughter, Sarah and beloved sister, Patricia Desrosier. Joanne was raised and educated in Springfield. Joanne and Paul, the former president of the Western Mass Telephone Workers Credit Union met at the Buxton Company in Agawam, MA. They enjoyed traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Together they co-founded the Ballroom Dance Club with two other couples who enjoyed dancing and spending time enjoying a wide variety of different music and dance styles. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting baby blankets for family and friends and donating them to the NICU unit at local hospitals. She also enjoyed making afghans, many family and friends have them as cherished keepsakes. An avid dog lover, she enjoyed many different breeds including Siberian Husky’s and West Highland terriers. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Springfield. She leaves her children; Paul C. MacDonald Jr. and his children; Andrew, Ryan and Patrick of Agawam. James R. MacDonald and his wife Susan and their children; Alex and Kaylee of Belchertown and Carrie L. MacDonald and her fiance, Jeff Kenyon of Springfield. She also leaves her siblings; Judith Flebotte and her husband Joseph of Port Orange, FLA. and James A. Daigle and his wife Margaret of Enfield, Connecticut and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her family and many dear friends including Lorraine Charron of Chicopee and Claire Mowaka of Monson and Jackie Stanek of Springfield. The family would like to especially thank her longtime care provider, Anna for the care, love and dignity she showed Joanne during these past few years. Calling hours at the Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard will be on Wednesday afternoon from 4 – 7 p.m. The family invites you to join them on Thursday morning at the Ratell Funeral Home at 11 a.m. for a Life Celebration service with Msgr. Daniel P. Liston, Celebrant. Interment of her ashes will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery RC Cemetery, 1273 Berkshire Avenue in the Orchard. Donations in Joanne’s memory may be made to the Springfield Rescue Mission, 10 Mill St, Springfield, MA 01108.
