HADLEY-Kenneth C. Ballard, 83, formerly of Springfield passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday evening at Elaine Center at Hadley. Ken was born in Springfield on October 16, 1936, to the late Archie & Gladys Ballard. He was raised and educated in Springfield, attending local schools and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy. Ken was the owner of the former St. John’s School of Business in West Springfield and also worked for many years with Hulmes Transportation Services. Ken loved music, and entertained others with his beautiful voice throughout his life. He also loved animals, the Red Sox, ice cream, and the beach. He never lost his sense of humor and sarcasm, and kept others laughing until the very end. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor (Selvecki) Ballard in 1985. He leaves behind his son, Matthew Ballard and his wife Eleanor and their children; Luke and Catharine Ballard of Belchertown; his son Michael Ballard and his wife Michele Ballard of Redondo Beach, CA; and his daughter, Megan Pereira and her husband Manuel Pereira of West Brookfield, MA; and a granddaughter, Autumn Ballard, of Denver, CO. He was predeceased by his siblings; Frances, Robert, Norman and Donald. Family and friends will gather to remember Ken on Friday, October 25, 2019 from 10 to 11 a.m. at RATELL FUNERAL HOME, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Ratell Funeral Home followed by burial at St. Aloysius Cemetery, Berkshire Ave., Indian Orchard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Adoption Center or the Dementia Society of America.
