INDIAN ORCHARD-Stanley R. Kapecki Jr., 87, of Goodwin St. in Indian Orchard passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 9, 2019 at Care One in East Longmeadow. Stanley was born in Ludlow, attended local schools there and graduated from Ludlow High School. Stanley was drafted by the US Army, serving in the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954. He received numerous commendations including the Meritorious Unit Commendation, UN Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He married his wife, Barbara (Nowak) in 1962 and they settled in Indian Orchard to raise their family. Stanley worked briefly for Zero Manufacturing in Munson before he purchased Whippernon Country Club in Russell. Stanley owned and operated Whippernon CC over 25 years before selling in 1987. He later worked as Groundskeeper for Westover Municipal Golf Course and Elmcrest CC. He was a devoted communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Indian Orchard. Stanley loved watching the Red Sox and Patriots, going fishing with his son on the boat and “Saturdays at the garage, talking and reminiscing.” He leaves his beloved wife of 56 years; Barbara (Nowak) Kapecki. His children; Robert F. Kapecki and Gregory A. Kapecki both of Indian Orchard and Lori Nunes and her husband Joseph of Ludlow and three grandchildren; Justin and Alexis Nunes and Matthew Kapecki. Calling hours for Stanley will be held at the Ratell Funeral Home, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard on Tuesday afternoon from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. A Private interment with military honors will be held on Wednesday at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
