Vincente D. Martins

Vincente D. Martins, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 25, at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. Vincente was born on April 15, 1935 in Turquel, Portugal, a son of Manuel and Amelia (Dos-Santos) Martins; he was raised and educated in Portugal, before immigrating to the United States and residing in Springfield for over 60 years. Vincente worked at the former Jahn foundry, in Springfield, and later at H.B Smith, in Westfield, before retiring from Lane Construction also in Westfield. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Barbara A. (Moquin) Martins in 2013 and was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and a former longtime parishioner of St. Aloysius Church, later known as St. Jude Mission Church. Vincente was a member of Local 999 in Springfield and a former Scout Master through St. Aloysius Church, for troop 40 in Indian Orchard. Vincente leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving children, Thomas A., and his wife Susan, of Ludlow, Bill J., and his wife Donna, of Palm Bay ,FL., Mark A. and his wife Jane, of Ludlow and Matthew V. of Ware and Tina M. Martins, of Indian Orchard; brothers, Jack Martins and his wife Rita, of Ludlow, Orlando Martins and his wife, Nancy of Ludlow and Florida, Virgilio Martins and his wife Denise of Chicopee and Manuel and his wife Gail, of Ludlow; his sisters, Aurora Simao , of California, Fernanda McCormick and her husband Walter, of Indian Orchard and FL, Carmen Mudry and her husband Tom, of Springfield, and Manuela Lord ,of Indian Orchard; twelve cherished grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Manuel and Amelia, he was also predeceased by his brother, Joseph Martins and his sister Justina Perriera and grandson, Matthew. Family and friends are invited to gather for Vincente’s funeral, Thursday, March 30, 2017, beginning at 8:30 am from Ratell funeral Home, 200 Main St., Indian Orchard, MA, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, 417 Boston Rd., Springfield. Burial will immediately follow the Mass at St. Aloysius Cemetery, Indian Orchard. Calling hours for Vincente will be on Wednesday, March 29, from 4 pm – 7 pm at the funeral home.
